Well, that was the last of it.

Emma surveyed the neatly labeled & taped piles of boxes before capping off her pen. She'd been dropping stuff off with Hank for months, and yet she still had boxes of items she needed to get to New York. Somehow the two bags worth of items she'd shown up to Fandom with had morphed through the years into all these boxes, and Emma wasn't quite sure how - or when - it had happened.

Hank had promised her long long ago that she'd only be at Fandom for the summer if she didn't like it; and now there were people she'd actually miss.

Not that you could get her to admit it, though. Emma Grace Frost was about to move back to New York and take over the world Empire State campus. It was time to show the world what she was made of.

[OOC: Open door, open post for calls, visitors, etc. Emma's last public post in Fandom!]

Half the room seemed rather desolate, much like some empty spaces in Emma's mind; where the thoughts of her friends usually thrummed quietly as they went about their business on the island.

She'd skipped the welcome picnic for a spa treatment and massage, and today was packing up most of her winter clothes and some books to drop-off with Hank. She wasn't going to be needing them before school started, unless the island decided to do Christmas in July, and it was something to do that was productive with her hands. And it made the room seem not so gloomy

Things were getting tossed into one of three piles; donate, keep, or store, as Emma used Triela's old bed for sorting. And if she was humming along to the radio - which she had turned up rather loudly - well, people were just going to have to deal.

She'd won. Or at least, her lawyer was going to win, and Emma had a stalemate for now.

She waited until she sensed Winston and Hazel leave, along with the on-again-off-again flickering presence that was Cordelia. She couldn't spot Adrienne through the eyes of anyone during her quick scan, so she figured the coast was clear. And victory was very sweet.

To celebrate, she figured she'd hit the mainland for a little bit. Pick up some new clothes for the inevitable court date, as well as a few pretty things for herself, then come back here and see who wanted to hit Caritas or Devil's Nest with her. Or both! Both were sounding pretty good right about now.

Since she was only planning on being gone a few hours, she didn't bother to leave Triela a note. It's not like her roommate would remember after reading it, anyway.

[OOC: Establishy. Open before she leaves, sure!]

While most people were probably already getting ready for prom, Emma was staring at a medium-size envelope, with a return address of Empire State University. She shouldn't be worried, really. She'd handwavily been accepted to Columbia University and UCLA, and she was still waiting to hear back from MIT. But E.S.U. was her first choice, and it had her unreasonably nervous.

After about fifteen minutes of staring at it, she ripped the envelope open and pulled at the pages inside.
Dear Miss Frost,
We are delighted to offer you membership in Empire State University's student body...

It went on like that for two pages, with various and sundry things about scholarships and housing, but Emma could barely process it. She was still stuck on the first part, and the signature at the bottom. She was in. She'd been accepted to her top choice program, tonight was prom, and she had a very handsome date. Today was awesome.

Anyone with empathic or telepathic abilities anywhere on the island probably heard her undignified mental squeal of delight before she remembered her manners and brought her shields up higher. This called for a trip to the spa to get her hair and make-up done.

It was Friday and Emma was free of classes and caught-up (and even a bit ahead) on all her Danger Shop courses.

Hello, Ladies.

Quinn and I forgot to mention last week that the fun run to raise money for charity is coming up! This will be our "Shamrock Event," like the college chapters have, to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America. I'll be putting up posters tomorrow around town and in the dorms, but it's up to you to solicit donations from your friends for the cause! We apologize for the short notice, but (shockingly!) we were a bit distracted by Hawaii.

In other news, I'd like to encourage all of you to put on your dancing shoes tonight, and go over to the Devil's Nest. Yours truly is the newest employee of the nightclub - at least as far as I know - and Mr. Northman wished for me to extend news of tonight's grand opening to my friends. Let's enjoy a night out, and show the town that KDG knows how to have fun! And no, I will not serve any of you alcohol, as we are all underage.

Regards,
Emma (& Quinn)

That done, Emma set about texting a few other people, to see if she'd have company for tonight. It was Friday, she had a kick-ass dress, and the night was looking pretty good.

[Door and post open, but I'm on epic SP after 5pm CST]

Wednesdays were Emma's slow day. No classes, no homework, and she typically did all her Special Classes on Thursday before going to film studies.

She'd already talked to Jack and was bored again. So since Triela would be out part of the afternoon at Gun Club, she had the door open and her music up, and was reading a completely trashy magazine.

What? She knew what her roommate had been up to last night when she'd been out. Any teasing from certain other parties would result in teasing and potential blackmail. Unfortunately for Triela, telepaths either made the best or worst roommates ever, depending on their mood.

[Open door, open post, looking for two in particular.]

Considering that Emma was expecting a late night tomorrow and Saturday, she was fine with an early night in, humming happily as she hung her new dresses up in the closet and settled in with her statistics homework. Weekend. Not that academics were often grueling at Fandom, but there was always some pleasure in knowing the week was almost done.

It had been three whole days, and the rest of her family had not yet shown up wielding lawyers and demanding she be turned over, so Emma was starting to relax again.

So to celebrate, Emma had the radio up, a mug of hot coco, and was playing chess against herself, French homework ignored for the moment. Sometimes (usually) her sense of relaxation was a little different from most people.

[Fixed the broken internet, so open door & open post to celebrate!]

Emma had not actually slept in two weeks.

Every time she began to get tired or drift off, her body would shift, and she'd find herself wide-awake, shiny, and mildly vexed at the entire situation. She'd change back eventually, but any attempts at napping or sleep were continually thwarted.

Until this afternoon, when her body could not keep up with the demands of Emma's unconscious any longer. Between one page of her latest mystery novel and the next, Emma Frost fell asleep.

And dreamed. Nightmares, pouring in from the minds of the rest of the island; visions of hells she had not visited herself. Demon dogs, some creature with an apron of skin, large mutant terrors roaming the streets. Rivet City, reminding her of what it meant to be homeless and broke and hungry all over again. The building coming down around her and Alex, and this time, Emma didn't change. Finding Alex's broken body and screaming. Watching her classmates and teachers unravel in the bunker, and falling prey to its residents.

She didn't wake screaming; Emma had trained herself too well for that. The only sign of her distress was the way her nails cut into her palms.
