Solstice Party at 33 Apocalypse Avene, Weds Evening.

The sun had barely begun to set when the house on Apocalypse Avenue lit-up like a small supernova. Each of the zombie lawn gnomes each had their own little candle in a cup, and the walk up to the house was strewn with fairy lights between the trees.

In the backyard, you would find wine, mead, fresh fruit, sparklers, and pretty much anything else required for your midsummer solstice party. There was more food in the kitchen, of course, and rather than the traditional bonfire, the residents had rigged their own burning sun in the center of the backyard.

Merry meet and welcome on the longest day!

"Kiss kiss," Karla said, dimpling up at Jono before giving his massive arm a headbutt. What? SHE WAS SHOWING LOVE. "Have you decided to enjoy the party by talking to as few people as possible?"

"I have chicken. Chicken counts as enjoyment so long as I get to eat it."

"Well, here I am to make you socialize for at least a little while," Karla said cheerfully, trying to steal a bite of his skewered chicken because that was also how she showed her love.

And really, Jono wasn't about to stop her, either. Because that was how he showed his love.

"If I had known sooner that all it took to get you around to visit was for me to sit alone with some chicken, I'd have tried it weeks ago," he teased. "You know, I don't actually need you to eat it for me, these days?"

"It's not my fault you don't try the easy routes," Karla said, swallowing her bite. Oooh, that was good. "And I know you don't--which I'm glad for? But I kind of miss back when I could use the old 'eating for two' excuse."

Oh, Jono did. With a little shake of his head and a bit of a snort.

"There are things I miss about those days," he allowed. "But not being able to eat was most certainly not one of those things."

The world still seemed only half-there at the best of times, like it was just him alone with the shadows in his head.

He leaned forward and wrapped one arm around her shoulder for a brief something-like-a-hug. "Missed you, luv."

Karla gave him a tight hug, sending a tendril of love and comfort back to him. "Missed you, too. I'm giving serious thought to bringing you home with me next year. You can run the theater from Glacia, right?"

"It'd make directing difficult," Jono replied wryly. "And I'd need one hell of a travel plan to get me from Kaeleer to New York on a regular basis. I suppose my one saving grace is that New York is prone to moving a little more quickly than Fandom, and I'd fall less behind in Kaeleer, wouldn't I?"

Not that he was in any sort of rush to leave, but...

"What in the world would I do in Glacia, besides freeze?"

"Christ," Jono muttered, shaking his head. "If that's the entirety of my job description, I'll never sleep again."

Not that he slept much before, granted.

"You know I'm not much of a babysitter, luv..."

"Which is for the best, since I don't like being baby-sat," Karla said, wrinkling her nose. "Though Lucivar occasionally likes to sit on me, but that's only because he's a prick and realized I don't mind getting dumped in a horse trough as much as the rest of the coven does."

It was so good of Lucivar to find the most annoying things he could do and then tailor it to each witch under his wing. Truly. Didn't Karla look ever so grateful?

Jonothon shook his head, smiling just faintly. Oh, Karla.

"One of these days, I'll have to actually properly meet that man. And buy him a drink."

He'd met you, Karla. He couldn't imagine handling a half-dozen of you, all in one place.

"Really, though. If I thought there was any actual place for me in Glacia, I might even consider it. As it stands, my world... It's... You know."
