Solstice Party at 33 Apocalypse Avene, Weds Evening.

The sun had barely begun to set when the house on Apocalypse Avenue lit-up like a small supernova. Each of the zombie lawn gnomes each had their own little candle in a cup, and the walk up to the house was strewn with fairy lights between the trees.

In the backyard, you would find wine, mead, fresh fruit, sparklers, and pretty much anything else required for your midsummer solstice party. There was more food in the kitchen, of course, and rather than the traditional bonfire, the residents had rigged their own burning sun in the center of the backyard.

Merry meet and welcome on the longest day!

"I am perfectly steady on my feet!" Emma objected, which might have been belied by the way she was leaning on him slightly. She was...just tipsy enough to be extremely affectionate. That. Yes. "Mutant metabolism, darling; I'll still be drinking when everyone else has passed out."

"So no taking advantage of you?" Jack said, leaning back slightly. "I could claim to be disappointed."

"You say that as if I wasn't perfectly willing," Emma laughed. "Although I never mind making you work for it...perhaps your seduction skills have grown rusty with disuse!"

Jack straightened himself, passed a hand over his shirt to smooth any wrinkles. The truth was, he had let himself slacken over the last several months: no more.

"Perhaps you're just not used to being seduced anymore."

"Perhaps you're quite right." A challenge, then, and Emma smirked at him from under her lashes. "I do believe my paramour has begun to take my affections for granted. I'll have to change that."

"Oh? 'Glorious' isn't a word most people use to describe me," Emma demurred. "What sort of special care do you think I need?"

Jack tilted his head to the side in mock-serious consideration of the question. "You need someone who will let you know every day that you're glorious -- and spend the other twenty-three and a half hours trying to keep it from going to your head," he decided. "And kissing, I think."

"Kissing is supposed to keep my ego in check?" Emma's smirk grew slightly wider in delight. "That doesn't seem very productive."

"No, no, it's all part of a very clever plan," Jack told her. "You see, I tend to find kissing distracting. It keeps one from thinking entirely about oneself."

"So you lure sweet girls into dark corners with pretty words about our glory, and then ravish us with kisses so we can't preen. Clever, but it won't work forever," Emma teased. "There are only so many darkened nooks to use, and so many lips to kiss."

Emma looked around, pretending to consider it. "You aren't Jono's type," she mused, "or Wyatt's... kissing Karla would mean a pack of angry boyos, and Isabel is an engaged woman. And Kate might hit you."

"Kate and I would laugh," Jack answered. "But of the others, you're right. So I suppose it comes down to the two of us."

"So you'll espouse my gloriousness, then?" Emma asked, laughing quietly. "Fill my head with fancies and then make me forget them all? You think you're that good to keep me occupied all evening?"

Sometimes, words were entirely unnecessary. Jack tilted his chin at her, raised an eyebrow, and smirked.

Of course he was that good.

"So far I'm hearing nothing to confirm this alleged reputation," Emma said, crossing her arms and tapping her foot expectantly. "Alas, I feel under-appreciated. I shall have to eat more sweets to cheer myself up."

That mental image was...not what Emma was expecting, and she almost dumped her mead on both of them in surprise.

...in retrospect, it was almost unfortunate that she had caught herself, because otherwise she could have retorted with the offer to lick him clean.
