Emma flinched at fire, she couldn't help it. After reading Christian's account of his incarceration at Snow Valley over and over during the past few days, her own experience was raw and close to the surface. And things that usually just lurked in dreams or behind doors her conscious mind had originally locked for her own protection were peeking through cracks.
Just because Emma had originally had memory gaps regarding what, exactly, had happened at Snow Valley didn't mean she was still oblivious. Not talking about it didn't mean not remembering.
Instead she forced a laugh, even if it rung a bit hollow. "Jack, I'm pretty sure he made at least one pass at you the weekend he was here that was semi-serious, and would have made more if I hadn't been in the picture," she said, shaking her head at the memory. "I don't think he'd mind."
After all, Jack hadn't flinched after seeing what the place had done to Emma, or run away. Unlike some people she could name.
"...but. This...it's his journal." Her tone was utterly flat, and Emma finally turned to meet Jack's gaze. "The last one."
You don't have to read it with her, Jack, but you will need to actually hand her the matches. She's not going to be able to actively seek them out herself, and not just because she's too sick to walk unaided.
