Room 528, Thursday Evening

Considering that Emma was expecting a late night tomorrow and Saturday, she was fine with an early night in, humming happily as she hung her new dresses up in the closet and settled in with her statistics homework. Weekend. Not that academics were often grueling at Fandom, but there was always some pleasure in knowing the week was almost done.

Peter knocked on the door, and then thought with all his might about dancing penguins. They were in a conga line.

What, he wanted to see if it would work.

"Cruel and unusual, Mr. Bishop," Emma yelled through the door, turning the page in her textbook. "You could at least give them leis."

It worked, and yes, Emma was nosy when there were people knocking on her door.

"Hula dancing penguins. I didn't think about that one," he said. "Does that mean I can't come in?"

He was smiling ear to ear.

"You can still come in, I suppose," she sighed, sticking a bookmark into her text. "However next time I expect more originality from you, although props for the conga."

"I'll do my best to brainstorm," Peter said, opening the door. "Especially because I was hoping to be stopping by again rather soon."

Hey, might as well get right to it. She'd be able to tell if he was just stalling to ask, any way.

"Oh really?" she asked, tilting her head at him and waiting. "What for? Did you want to copy my homework?"

"Man, I knew you'd know that was what I was after," Peter said, snapping his fingers. He still had the smile on his face. He stepped in a bit. "Actually, I was hoping to escort a certain Miss Frost to the homecoming dance.

And despite his recent 'naked in Lindsay's room' incident, she was his first choice.

"I think I could be persuaded, Mr. Bishop," she replied. "Luckily for you, I have a dress, and no other escort for the evening."

She'd promised a dance to Jack, but nothing else. And Emma did like Peter quite bit so far.

"And I have a suit and am lucky enough that no guy asked you before I did," Peter said. "Plus I'm pretty sure I won't be a dog all weekend again."

"Careful, or you'll jinx it like last time," Emma pointed out. "But I would certainly hope you aren't going to be a dog."

Although she wouldn't mind if he yipped in excitement - discreetly - when he saw her in the dress. Sometimes a little bit was good for a girl's ego.

"What time would you care to pick me up?"

"Six?" Peter said. "I believe it's tradition for me to take you out for a meal before we hit the dance proper. And breaking tradition probably leads to seven years bad luck. It's like a mirror."

That made no sense, but he was going with it.

It kind of made sense! If you squinted. And looked at it sideways.

"I think that sounds suspiciously like a date," Emma agreed. "You have a deal. Assuming, of course, your idea of dinner isn't that abominable Mooby-place."

"I said dinner," Peter said. "Not failure on a bun with a side of cholesterol poisoning."

"Around here, it's best to specify, especially when you consider where some of our classmates come from," she pointed out. "You could be from an alternate world where it's considered the height of cuisine."

"I promise, I'm not from an alternate world," Peter said.

Oh, Peter.

"Something good and proper. I was actually thinking Il Pollo."

"That sounds perfectly lovely," Emma replied. "I'll be waiting here at six, then, with baited breath."

"And if you feel the need, you can always stop by my booth at the fair tomorrow and plant one right on my face," he joked.

"I'll be in the pie tossing area," he clarified.

"If I decide I need a break from working at the kissing booths, I might come steal a pie," she teased. "I don't see why I should throw it, when it will make a perfectly sweet dessert."
