icecoldfrost: (Emma & Hank)

Emma had shooed the boys off at some point, claiming she was going to set up the drops that would deliver the bulk of the diamonds to the three charities she'd selected last night: a food kitchen, a youth shelter, and the ACLU. Organizations that needed funding far more than Donald Pierce and this mysterious 'Lang'.

And indeed, there were three large, anonymous donations made that day, each of which had a letter asking that the organization not publicize the gift. However, each of the donations was slightly smaller than what Emma had counted out in front of the boys.

This time she took the long route in, out of paranoia. Random wanderings through the city, into Central Park, and down one of the sewer tunnels, eventually emerging at the rear entrance to their lair, by Hank's lab.

"There you are," Hank said, giving her a wide smile from where he was sorting through various intestinal-looking things. "I was watching, did you see me?"

"I didn't see you at all," Emma assured him, shrugging off her backpack and kneeling on the floor. "I was looking, too. Where were you hiding outside?"

"Not telling," he retorted cheerfully, going back to his work. "If you don't know, you can't give me away."

"Point," Emma agreed, unzipping her bag and starting to unpack. More canned food, first aid supplies, and then a small combo-locked box that rattled slightly.

Hank eyed the box slightly. "I thought you were going to donate all that."

Emma's eyes narrowed in response. "You got into the Hellfire Club last night, didn't you? You were spying on me inside."

"Just a little. Until I knew your friends would keep you safe," Hank admitted. "You lied to them."

"No I didn't. I already donated diamonds, just as I said I would," she answered sharply. "Perhaps not the amounts they thought I was going to provide, but that's their own fault for making assumptions. This --" she held up the box, "-- is the rainy day fund. I put my other cut into safety deposit box, and I'll have them appraised in a few months, after I'm sure they aren't watching the jewelers. But these are for us to fund your research." Emma was confident that Hank would find some way to fence them if she wasn't around. "But they're only for emergencies."

Hank nodded. "Emergencies," he agreed. "Okay, Emma. Whatever you say."

"That's right," she replied, giving him a bright smile as she got up to put away the other supplies before she needed to head back to the school. "What I say."
