Emma was trying very very hard to talk herself out of doing something horribly impulsive.

It was one of the most exclusive parties to kick off the season, and Emma had her laptop on her bed as she refreshed websites, reading the commentary and making remarks to the air about some of the outfits. The urge to see if she could fake her way into the gala was strong, and she was sure her powers would keep her from getting kicked out, and so the only things giving her pause were that there were so many cameras, and there were good odds that her older sister might actually be on the guest list.

And there were fewer things Emma wanted to avoid more than an impromptu Frost family reunion.

So she'd content herself -- for now -- with sipping from her vodka stash and reading the live blogs. And making notes about who was talking with who, and what they were wearing, because that sort of information could come in handy later.

[Open door, open post. Enabling of method RP blamed firmly on [livejournal.com profile] bitten_notshy because I am drinking and looking at the outfits.]

Sookie, bored by her own room but not completely committed to finding a common room, wandered down the hall looking for an open door to peek in.

Naturally, she found Emma's. "You're not doing some sort of homework, are you?" she asked, concerned.

Sookie maybe needed to learn the internet wasn't just for school.

"And I thought I had -- oh my gosh, what's on her shoulder?" Sookie had come in a bit to see the picture. And now she was mildly horrified, yes.

"It's a pretty color," Sookie offered, trying to be nice. "But the thing on her shoulder just...looks like someone's toupee got stuck there and she's too nice to remove it just yet."

"I could make that baggy dress from some old curtains, and it probably costs more than my house," Sookie sighed. "My god, people. And I'm all for, y'know, sparkling, but sometimes less is more. Are they supposed to look insane?"

"I liked my prom dress better'n all of these," Sookie agreed, taking a seat with Emma. "I thought being edgy was about looking attractive, not like you got dressed by a crazy person. Who was drunk."

"We would. Yours was gorgeous," Sookie sighed happily. "So why're you looking at all this stuff if it's just, you know, crazy-looking and not actually pretty? Lying in wait for something good?"

"You'd get to go?" Sookie asked, tilting her head before looking at the picture. "And okay, I don't love her necklace -- it's kind of big -- but the um, lines of the dress are real flattering."

And up went Sookie's eyebrow. "...that's one of the uses for our powers that I never actually considered," she mused. "Getting in places I want to go."

"See, I think I'd just have to trick the bouncer," Sookie said thoughtfully. "Look in his head, find out who he thinks you are, or that he's stepping out on his wife, and use the information to your advantage." She paused. "My goodness, listen to us! And I just took a class on magical ethics."

"Yeah, I know," Sookie agreed with a shrug. "I mean, I don't know where mine came from, like you do, so for all I know I'm some kind of magical fairy unicorn telepathic princess thing. But they don't really have a course on 'How to be ethical with one's telepathy!' Yet. Frankly I think the island would better benefit on something that taught them how to act around us, anyway."
