The sweep of the island had turned out negative, confirming the suspicion that Emma had moved to somewhere off-island. And so the group of searchers moved out across the causeway and to the mainland, with the reasoning that if she were looking for Hank, she'd probably head to the city.
Random traces of unseasonal ice and physic scents eventually led them to a shipping yard near the Causeway...

Random traces of unseasonal ice and physic scents eventually led them to a shipping yard near the Causeway...
Sookie |
Sookie had a good bead on Emma at this point, and it was bizarre hearing Emma coming out of what she recognized as Bobby's actual brain. But in any case, she considered her options as they approached, and she stepped over a little trail of ice. "We're gonna have to tread lightly with this," she noted quietly. "She's scared, and she's got powers she doesn't know how to use. Powers that're pretty, um, emotionally-tied, from what I know, aren't they? If she gets upset or panics again...." |
Karla |
"Oh good," Karla murmured wryly, looking around. "I was worried that this might suddenly become easy. And where's the fun in that?" The whole place look like a maze designed out of giant, multi-colored building blocks. Thank the Darkness they had alternate ways to track Emma, because in a place like this, they could search for days and never find her. "As annoying as it will be if Emma runs," she added a little louder, "we may want to confront her only in areas where there are plenty of places to run and maneuver. If we corner her, if she feels trapped..." Karla pointed to a crate, half-encased in ice. "I'd prefer none of us ended like that." |
Warren |
Warren grimaced at the crate, pulling his wings a little more tightly against his back as he did so. Right. There would be no frightening the lady in his best friend's body, today. "So... we just follow her until she's in a place like that? I won't be able to follow everywhere, not here on the mainland, not without my coat. But I can follow along from the rooftops, if it comes to that. I think." |
Kyle |
"We could try to redirect her without her realizing it. It would mean trying to get ahead of her though." |
Warren |
"Getting ahead of her shouldn't be too much of a problem, if someone keeps going from above," Warren noted. "And I'm going to be up there anyway... Do you suppose me flying up ahead would help, then?" |
George |
"If ye think ye can be dodgin' the ice if she gets spooked sounds like it's good idea," George agreed, nodding at Kyle's idea. "Or mayhap jus' scout out an area we can push her into." |
Karla |
"Scouting a place where we can herd her is probably a good idea," Karla said, favoring them both with a brief smile. "So long as she doesn't turn around and attack--she feels like she's safer running than fighting, then we should be okay." |
![]() Emma-in-Bobby |
Emma could hear familiar voices faintly, although she couldn't make out what they were saying, and as she spared a moment to curse her lack of telepathy, dangerous-looking ice spikes forming all over her body at the perceived threat. Once she got Hank to fix this, Robert was getting a lecture on not living up to his potential. The entire area around her turned to ice at her frustration, and Emma almost cried. "Leave me alone!" she screamed, waves of ice rippling outwards and tossing crates aside like feathers. "I can fix this myself." |
Karla |
Karla flung up a shimmering blue shield over all of them as the ice swept towards them, flinging crates about with merry abandon. "Emma!" she yelled, trying not to flinch away when several of those crates crashed and splintered on her shields directly above their heads. "Don't be that way! We're you're friends! Just because you can fix it yourself--" which Karla was kind of doubting, but details "--doesn't mean you have to!" |
Sookie |
Sookie -- who had ducked instinctively when the crates broke, now stood back upright. "Emma, honey," she called. "Listen to us! We want to help! No one here's gonna hurt you! We wanna help. Remember when Karla and I helped before?" |
![]() Emma |
Oh crap, they were closer than Emma had thought. "I don't want help!" she yelled, running farther into the maze of crates. "Stay out of my head!" More than anything else, she was terrified of someone else ending up in a coma if they tried to help her. |
Warren |
"Emma?" Warren stepped forward, in spite of the crates, in spite of the chill in the air. "I can't get into your head, Emma. I'm not a telepath, you don't have to worry about that from me. And... I don't know you very well. I'll admit that. I know you don't have any reason to listen to somebody who's practically a stranger, but..." He shrugged, though he doubted she could see. "If you don't want to accept help for your sake, please, at least listen to what we have to say, for Bobby's? We know you can handle yourself. You're doing very well. I don't know if he is." |
Sookie |
Sookie grasped onto Warren's words like a liferaft, because despite the physical chill, they hit her like a bucket of ice water. In all searching, and the breaking, and the worrying, she had put Bobby from her mind -- she couldn't worry about the boy in the coma when her friend was out wreaking havoc. But now, it might be a way to get Emma to listen. "He might not be," Sookie agreed, letting every scrap of resurgent worry for Bobby come through her voice. "Sweetheart, let us help you, for both of you. Please. Please, for us, even. Let us try?" |
![]() Emma |
"What do you think you can do that I can't?" Ice walls spun-up around the iced-up form of Bobby Drake, but the words coming from from within the dome were of a scathing cadence that had never fallen from his lips. "I can already do more with his powers than he can." "Tell me, Worthington. What are you going to do to 'help' us? Let the doctors poke and prod?" |
Warren |
Warren flinched. Warren flinched hard. But, in spite of that, he kept his chin square, and his eyes ahead of him. "I don't know," he admitted. "But it won't involve running away." He was going to need to do a good deal of cathartic screaming into a pillow later, he could tell. |
Karla |
"Like I'd let one of this world's doctors near you," Karla snapped, returning scorn for scorn. She saw Warren's flinch out of the corner of her eye and sent out a tendril of soothing calm she wasn't even sure he could feel--but kept her attention firmly locked on Emma. "Hell's fire, Ems, I'm a Healer. A Black Widow. And you are my Sister. Do you really think I'd let harm come to you? Or Bobby? You're smarter than that." |
![]() Emma |
That only upset Emma more, and ice spikes erupted from the ground. "You don't even trust that I know what I'm doing!" she screamed. "And you expect me to trust you? I'm not running away, I'm trying to get this fixed, and you won't leave me alone long enough for me to calm down! Just go away!" |
Kyle |
"We can't do that," Kyle replied calmly. "What kind of people would we be if we left you alone in a situation like this? We're here because we're worried about you and we're worried about Bobby. We're no threat to you. If you think you can fix this, then okay. Use the resources you have, and that includes us." |
![]() Emma |
There was a momentary pause, then; "And if someone else gets hurt, then it's all my fault." It was bitter and resigned, rather than angry, but Emma wasn't screaming anymore. "Take them home, Reese. Please." |
George |
"Not gonna happen, lass," George said quietly, standing easily with Kyle. "No one else is gettin' hurt. If ye need time then take it, but we're stayin' here wit' ye until we can get ye back to th'island an' Bobby." |
Sookie |
"No one else is going to get hurt," Sookie added, soothing. "Honey, no one blames you for anything. We just want to fix this. And we're not letting you be alone, and no one's going to go near you without getting through us first, okay? Just let us help you. As best we can." |
![]() Emma |
"What do you think you can do that I can't?" she challenged, ignoring the fact that she couldn't access her own powers right now, just Bobby's. It was like being in a sensory deprivation tank; even with the added additions of how Bobby perceived the world through his powers, Emma felt deaf, dumb and blind, and it was driving her insane. |
Sookie |
"Help reverse this," Sookie said gently, stepping closer to Karla. "We can. You left your powers in your body, didn't you? And Bobby can't access them to help. Let me and Karla help you go back. Like before, with the fog?" |
Karla |
"Emma, we trust you not to harm us," Karla said, linking arms with Sookie. "Please, trust us to help you. Together we can fix this. Between all of us, we can set it right." |
Warren |
"Please, Emma." Warren's own voice was earnest, and if he was still shaken by the comment about doctors that had been made earlier, he certainly wasn't letting it show. "Let's get back to Bobby, and to the rest of you, so that this can get straightened out again. No doctors. No running. Just friends." |
![]() Emma |
The ice wall stayed up, but a figure seemed to sprout from it, like a ship's figurehead leaning forward in to the waves. "I just wanted to get it fixed before anyone else freaked out. I don't even know what happened." The last thing Emma remembered was Bobby pestering her about something. Everything else was blank. |
Kyle |
"We're not freaking out," Kyle tried to assure her. He took a step forward and held out his hand, palm upturned. Whether or not she took it was unimportant. "We're going back to Fandom. Anything that needs to be done can be done there. We're going to work this out." |
![]() Emma |
He was rewarded with a Look that was 100% pure Emma Frost, no matter what body she might be wearing at the moment. "I may lack telepathy at the moment," she said dryly, "but I still know a fib when I hear one." They were freaked out, otherwise they wouldn't be chasing her like this. Emma-Bobby melted back in to the ice dome as seamlessly as she'd appeared. "I just want some quiet time to try and make the body do what I want, instead of it flipping out, okay?" she asked. "Can you just... I don't know. Wait? Just for a bit?" It was tempting to run again, especially given what she knew Bobby could do, except that she was exhausted and rather sure that they could cut her off before she managed to find Hank. "But the first person to come near me with a sedative or a needle gets an icicle in an unfortunate location." |
Sookie |
"We'll wait," Sookie promised quietly. "Just don't run off, okay? We'll be right here. And no one is going to try to sedate you." She gave Emma a little smile. "I won't even try that trick you pulled on me in Bon Temps. Take the time you need. We're here." She wasn't going to deny the freaking out part, because she, at least, was scared. But at least they'd solved this, in a way. And Emma was okay. The freaking out was decreasing, at least, since it had mostly been panic for Emma and Bobby's collective well-being, rather than for herself or anyone else. |
Karla |
Karla sighed. "No one here is going to sedate anyone else," she said. "It's a rule. But if you want anyone to talk to or to help you figure it out, we're right here, okay?" She sat on air, trying to pretend like this was a completely casual and normal day and they weren't sitting in the middle of a shipping yard, surrounded by icicles. "Anyone interested in lunch after this is all straightened out? My treat." |
Warren |
Yep. Completely casual, standing around waiting for the girl in his best friend's body to come out from behind the ice. Warren sighed and gave Karla a small, tired grin. "Maybe another time. My appetite is kind of shot today." |
Sookie |
Sookie smiled a little, stretching before taking a seat on the ground. No need to make Emma feel pressured. "I'd love to, sweetie, but I think there'll be someone else wanting my attention. Not every day your boyfriend bodyswaps with your best friend and ends up in a coma, right? This is gonna make a great story." Yes, she was trying to lighten things up, now that it looked like it'd go okay. |
![]() Emma |
"I'll take an ice cream when I wake up," Emma offered from inside the dome while she worked on trying to make the spikes all over the body go away. "Or a milkshake. Or a Long Island Ice Tea that is more Long Island and less Ice Tea." Finally she collapsed her shield with a sigh, looking slightly more like a hedgehog than like someone who could impale you just by looking at you. "I can't make them go away completely," she apologized. "Just...don't try to touch me unless you have an overwhelming desire to experience severe frost bite." At least she had finger-ish things again, instead giant-ice-daggers. |
Karla |
"I still have honey-pear brandy" Karla said. "As soon as you're back to normal, we'll have ice cream and watch fun movies and gossip all night." That's right. When reason wouldn't work, Karla had no problems resorting to bribery. "Let's just get you back to the clinic and get this fixed. The faster you're in you again, the faster we can have drinks without worrying about Bobby's inability to hold his liquor." Uhh, no offense Bobby. |
Kyle |
Kyle didn't take his eyes off Emma. "I can't promise brandy or ice cream, but we'll get you home safe." |
George |
George nodded at Kyle's remark, not paying attention to the girly promises of ice cream or whatever. "Tis what's important now, aye?" |
![]() Emma |
The spikes on her arms lengthened a bit again at the implications that she needed an escort to make sure she actually went back to Fandom, but she gritted her teeth until they receded to her satisfaction. "Well, at least we've found a new use for my powers," she remarked cheerfully. "Now I just have to figure out how to do it when I'm awake." Fear her practicing, people. FEAR. |
Warren |
"If you try it on me, I'll laugh when you fly into a wall," Warren shared, pleasantly. More or less pleasantly, at least. He was looking a little antsy. "Are we ready to go? The longer we stay around here, the bigger the chance that someone will stumble over us." |
Sookie |
"Yeah," Sookie said, looking a bit antsy herself. "Let's head back to the clinic before someone finds us. And, like Karla said, I'd really just like to get you back into your own body before Bobby gets stuck with the hangover," she added with a small smile before turning to head back the way they'd come. |
