Room 528, Wednesday Afternoon/Evening

Wednesdays were Emma's slow day. No classes, no homework, and she typically did all her Special Classes on Thursday before going to film studies.

She'd already talked to Jack and was bored again. So since Triela would be out part of the afternoon at Gun Club, she had the door open and her music up, and was reading a completely trashy magazine.

What? She knew what her roommate had been up to last night when she'd been out. Any teasing from certain other parties would result in teasing and potential blackmail. Unfortunately for Triela, telepaths either made the best or worst roommates ever, depending on their mood.

"Ah, Alex Karev, hero of the lighterless. He talks dirty really well."

Kate made a face immediately after hearing herself say that, and shook her head as she pulled a few cigarettes from the pack before tossing it back at Emma. "See, this day wasn't this long before I started talking."

"That's not the only thing he does really well." Emma only looked slightly annoyed instead of mortified. "Tell him I said that, and I cut you off from my nicotine stash forever. He does not need a bigger ego."

"Hey, if I blurt it out today, you don't get to blame me," Kate had to point out. "'Cause the island's making me do it, and I'd probably only be saying it so I wouldn't tell him I wanted to do him that one time -- dammit, Fandom."

"If you only wanted to pounce him once, you're still doing better than me," Emma said, wincing slightly. This was so not fair.

So very much not fair. "Well, all the other times we've talked have been in class," Kate said, and was almost surprised to find no excessive honesty in that statement. "This is even worse than the singing."

"Singing missed me this year!" Don't be so cheerful about that, Emma. "But I agree that this is much, much worse."

"The singing missed you?" Well color Kate jealous. "Dude, I had to sing about trying to run away from my family."

... And she'd said that out loud, too.

"I already ran away from my family, although apparently my bitch of an older sister has tracked me down. So I don't think I'll be singing about that particular desire any time soon."

Shit.

"Ah, while it's not exactly a secret that I'm self-emancipated, as I like to say, I'd prefer, if you didn't share that with the rest of the school."

"Would not even dream of it," Kate promised, shaking her head. "I know all about fucked up families and not telling people about it, trust me."

How she managed to say that without owning up to having a multiple mother, she'd never know. But she was glad.

"Today sucks." There. That was a piece of honesty Emma didn't mind sharing. "I've gone through three packs of cigarettes this week, and at this rate, it will easily be another four packs by Sunday."

"I think I went through a nearly full one yesterday," Kate said, shrugging a shoulder, "but before that I had my boyfriend at my disposal, so that was okay."

She couldn't even tell whether that was something she would've normally shared.

"I have not slept with anyone since Jack left, so I haven't had that option," Emma complained. "No one's expressed any interest."

Kate quirked a brow. "I find that very hard to believe."

"It's true!" Emma objected. "Not one offer! I'm starting to lose faith in the boys at this school."
