icecoldfrost: (hanging out)

Half the room seemed rather desolate, much like some empty spaces in Emma's mind; where the thoughts of her friends usually thrummed quietly as they went about their business on the island.

She'd skipped the welcome picnic for a spa treatment and massage, and today was packing up most of her winter clothes and some books to drop-off with Hank. She wasn't going to be needing them before school started, unless the island decided to do Christmas in July, and it was something to do that was productive with her hands. And it made the room seem not so gloomy

Things were getting tossed into one of three piles; donate, keep, or store, as Emma used Triela's old bed for sorting. And if she was humming along to the radio - which she had turned up rather loudly - well, people were just going to have to deal.

"What's the point of clearing out if you can't fill up the gaps you made?" Effy commented, a little smirk tugging at her lips.

"I... went back to England for a bit," she answered. "A bit longer there than I'd figured." A week here, more like a month in Bristol.

"Apparently being a mental-case isn't too healthy." If she was going to admit to something, might as well stick to the bluntest self-deprecating words she could find.

Effy's nod was only a little hesitant. "Yeah. Way better," she confirmed. "Supposed to be going all straight edge, though." Which was less fun. "No being a bad influence."

"On who? Everyone's sodded off home as far as I can tell." It felt that way, at least.

"Don't think you need my bad influences." There was new people, but-- ugh, getting to know new people. She'd always been shit at that. Old antisocial habits were tough to break.
