This was, quite possibly the worst plan Emma had ever come up with in her life. Which was why she had a full flask and a large amount of cash in her purse, as she got the feeling she was going to need both today.

Bribes and booze made everything in life easier.

"If I hear one comment about peaches or indecent hemlines, I will put you in something truly scandalous," she threatened, climbing out of the taxi and heading towards the nearest storefront. "And you know I will."

Beka stumbled out of the car, only half hearing what Emma was saying. Her eyes were wide as she glanced around at everything, a look of wonder on her face. It was noisy with traffic, music drifting from the shops and the occasional street vendor trying to get rid of his wares. It smelled so much more different than the Lower City or Fandom.

There was too much to see at once. She was certain one of the boys slipping between people was a minnow. Not fast enough to be aught more. It made her fingers tingle and this was so much more like it. This was a city, naught like home, but alive and she loved it.

"I won't make a comment," she said, sounding absent as she craned her neck up and up to glance at the tall buildings.

Karla was also gazing around in amazement. If she hadn't gone to New Gotham with Dinah for a weekend, she probably would have been absolutely floored by everything around her. Even still, New York left her speechless. Buildings raked at the sky with glass and chrome claws, music blasted from almost everywhere and cars hurtled down the street at seemingly breakneck speed (until they all stopped at once with protesting squeals), while people on odd contraptions wove between them all. She was assaulted by sights and smells and noises.

It was a good thing that she had vanished all of her money--her gape-mouthed, almost bemused expression screamed 'tourist' at anyone interested enough to look.

"Wow..." Karla breathed, obviously not hearing Emma's threat at all.

"Rehearsal for what?" Beka asked. She didn't mind being tugged along. There was plenty to see everywhere.

At least, until sommat even louder than the cars passed on the street and she swivelled around to get a look at the two wheeled thing chasing by. "Is that a bicycle?" She ignored the curses from the people that had to avoid bumping into her.

"I think it's a motorcycle," Karla answered, also ignoring the people behind them. "Dinah's sister Helena has one. Oh, and rehearsal for the play, Midsummer Night's--oh! Is that male selling hot dogs? From a cart? And what are those little flatbread thingies?!"

Trust Karla to be distracted by food.

But the food did smell good and there was a bit more of herding needed to get Beka moving to the right doors. "Do they have apple fritters too?"

"Oh, apple fritters are delicious! And apple cider, too." Karla craned her neck around to look at the male with the cart. "I don't think he has any, but maybe later, when we're sight-seeing? Though I am hungry now," she added plaintively.

It was with some regret that Beka let herself be shoved towards the doors. Still, Emma had brought them here for a reason so she should at least be somewhat cooperative.

"What's cotton candy?" she asked as she pushed open the door to the shop.

Karla also allowed herself to be herded towards the doors, mostly so she could hurry through the shopping part and get to the eating part. "Spun sugar," she answered Beka as she held open the door for the three of them. "It's usually bright pink and melts on your tongue and is quite sweet and tasty."

Beka let Emma breeze ahead of her, sparing some time to glance around the shop. Unlike Turtle's there were only clothes here. Many more clothes. None of which suitable to walk around the Lower City with.

"I'd not mind trying this cotton candy," she said, aware that mayhap only Karla would hear her response. "I've a feeling it might take some time to find a dress." Unless she just grabbed the first thing in sight. Right.

Karla was glaring around the shop. "Cotton candy is good," she said. "Much better than shopping. Do you think Em would notice--okay, only Red Moon Houses would carry something that short." Sheinterrupted herself to point at a skirt made of ruffles that might--if stretched--cover the tops of her thighs.

"What's Red Moon H-" Beka stopped short of her question as she got interrupted by Emma. Mayhap she'd have to ask these questions later. When Emma wasn't yelling about canoodling. She could think of a fair number of things that'd be better than both.

She wrinkled her nose at the ruffles dress and then got distracted by sommat really loud (http://www.edressme.com/99f70.html). "I'll not grab the first thing," she agreed.

Karla immediately shook her head at the second dress (taking care not to mention how short it was), and frowned at the first. "I like it," she said, but won't it just show off how little I have as far as breasts go?"

She glanced over at the dress Beka was looking at and winced. "Eww." Then she blinked, and grabbed a dress close to it. "I wish this were a bit longer. There's something very Widows Weed-y about it."

Beka was mostly glancing around the shop, feeling the different fabrics between her fingers.

"There's that one (http://www.edressme.com/blackdresses11807.html)," she said, moving back a rack to one of the dresses she'd looked at. "Or mayhap that black one (http://www.edressme.com/gown-427420.html). I'm not sure it'd fit me well."

She wasn't very good at this.

"Tis a pretty color," she had to agree, moving to feel the dress. There may have been some concern if her peaches would fill the dress enough.

Beka took the two dressed from the rack and followed Emma to the changing rooms. Mayhap she didn't mind trying on dresses as much as she let on, even if she yearned to get back out of the shop and into that busy city.

"Will there really be voting?" she asked.

"It would take a lot of ice cream, but yes," Karla said, sticking her head out from the racks of clothing. "Though you should see this one I found!" she said, tugging it out from beneath the other clothing. "You know--I have something like it back home. Except in blue. And this one isn't bad, even if it's a light blue."

Beka restrained a laugh and she ducked to pick up the crumpled dress. She wasn't in a hurry to try on her dress and straightened the dress before going to hand it to Karla.

"I'm certain she'd not meant it as an order," she joked. She was certain it had been.

"But the embroidery is nice," Beka commented as she appraised the dress. It wasn't like her sister's work, but it was pretty.

Karla smiled at Beka as she took the proffered dress. Unsurprisingly, she was very fond of the corset-and-long gown look, having found several others that had caught her eye. "Check out this one, too!" she suggested, floating it over the stall door. "What do you think?"
