Emma's Manhatten -- Tuesday Afternoon

This was, quite possibly the worst plan Emma had ever come up with in her life. Which was why she had a full flask and a large amount of cash in her purse, as she got the feeling she was going to need both today.

Bribes and booze made everything in life easier.

"If I hear one comment about peaches or indecent hemlines, I will put you in something truly scandalous," she threatened, climbing out of the taxi and heading towards the nearest storefront. "And you know I will."

"Tis a pretty color," she had to agree, moving to feel the dress. There may have been some concern if her peaches would fill the dress enough.

"Try it on," Emma urged, heading for a changing room to try her own selections. "If they don't fit, we can always ask if they have it in another size."

Beka took the two dressed from the rack and followed Emma to the changing rooms. Mayhap she didn't mind trying on dresses as much as she let on, even if she yearned to get back out of the shop and into that busy city.

"Will there really be voting?" she asked.

"Only the right of absolute veto, because if something looks horrible, real friends won't let you wear it," Emma promised, picking a few more items for herself as they headed towards the back.

"Karla? What about this one, darling?" she called, pausing to hold up a black dress. "Can I bribe you to try it for me?"

"It would take a lot of ice cream, but yes," Karla said, sticking her head out from the racks of clothing. "Though you should see this one I found!" she said, tugging it out from beneath the other clothing. "You know--I have something like it back home. Except in blue. And this one isn't bad, even if it's a light blue."

"You should get the first one anyway, then, and you'll have a dress that none of the other girls at home have seen," she replied, bouncing into the changing area and starting to try on her stash.

After a few moments, there was a disgruntled noise, and Emma threw one over the door to land on the floor. "That shade of blue doesn't suit me. You try it, Karla."

She'd promised Beka nothing corset-ish, so she was going to stick with that promise. Even if the other girl would look lovely in the blue.

Beka restrained a laugh and she ducked to pick up the crumpled dress. She wasn't in a hurry to try on her dress and straightened the dress before going to hand it to Karla.

"I'm certain she'd not meant it as an order," she joked. She was certain it had been.

"No, it's an order!" Emma confirmed cheerfully, skipping out to twirl in front of the three-way mirror. "Hrm. Possibly too formal. I feel like I should wear a tiara with this."

"But the embroidery is nice," Beka commented as she appraised the dress. It wasn't like her sister's work, but it was pretty.

Karla smiled at Beka as she took the proffered dress. Unsurprisingly, she was very fond of the corset-and-long gown look, having found several others that had caught her eye. "Check out this one, too!" she suggested, floating it over the stall door. "What do you think?"

"Karla!" Emma hissed, trying to suppress a giggle as she plucked the gown out of the air. "Don't do that! My world doesn't realize powers are real! If you scare the shop-girls off, we can't buy anything."

Still, she skipped back to her pile of dresses, tossing two more at the other girl. "Here, these will suit you better than me."

"Beka, have you tried anything yet?" she continued, giving her little sibling a Look. "Dress, young lady. Now."
