Emma Frost was bored, desperately needed a study break, and had beat all the levels of Angry Birds on her phone.

No, let's back that up and tell the truth: Emma Frost was lonely, drunk - she'd stolen a bottle of 151 from the store since she couldn't afford to buy it - and bored. She'd finished her homework for the week, and her readings, and there weren't any grad students doing experiments going on at the psych labs to watch.

...what? You had your entertainments, and Emma had hers. And she didn't have a television.

Which was why she was currently drunk-calling/texting people while cutting out the articles from the various society pages about the Thankful Virtues event. Especially the ones that mentioned her.

Jack had no idea why the small white tablet next to his bed was playing music at him, but he'd gotten the general idea from watching others on the island that you talked into them.

So he picked it up and, very gingerly, said "What is it?"

"It's Thursday, I'm bored, and you haven't told me I'm pretty in a week," Emma announced. "So you can do so now."

Emma-logic, Jack. Sorry.

"I think you have the wrong person, but you sound pretty," Jack said, guarded. "The screen says Emma. Is that your name?"

She might notice he sounded a little funny; the puberty fairy had not tapped him with her wand, yet.

"No, I decided I was Cordelia this week," Emma snapped guardedly. "Why do you sound twelve instead of twenty? Did last night's full moon do something funny?"

"I'll be fourteen in two weeks," Jack snapped. Because that was the important point, here. "And I don't know, I just woke up in this house a few days ago and no one can tell me why, and now this thing was making noise at me, and apparently I'm supposed to know who you are, Emma or Cordelia or whatever, and I don't."

He finally drew a breath after that.

There was a very long pause, then;

"If this is somehow Don Sebastien's fault I am going to track him down and kick him in the shins repeatedly."

If Jack was regressing to his childhood, yes, Emma's first instinct was to blame the vampire that raised him. The second impulse was to blame Fandom.

"Is Kaidan there? How old is he?"

"He is, and he's a few years older than I am. He's not exactly chatty," Jack said, still cool but warming a bit. Something she'd said gave him hope. "You know where Sebastien is? Can you tell me?"

"Russia, last I spoke with him, and no, you're not going to go catch up with him until at least Tuesday," Emma said, deciding to stop any of that nonsense right now. "If Kaidan is your age, then it sounds like you've both been hit with a dose of Fandom magic. Sit still, and you'll be back to normal by next week or I'll find your vampire for you."

She huffed impatiently, sulking on the other end. This was NOT how drunk phone calls were supposed to go. "So much for calling my boytoy and filling his head with lurid ideas. Is anyone feeding you two?"

"Yes, there's plenty of food here. And of course he'd be in Russia in the winter," Jack said fondly. But the strange woman was likely right: He knew no way to get to Russia in less than a few weeks, and the place was too large to conveniently search without more to go on anyhow.

He could have asked a hundred questions about the rest of what she said, but the one that actually came out was a squeaked, "... I'm someone's boytoy?"

He wasn't sure how he felt about that.

"You're normally twenty, and tend to frequent my bed, so, yes, you're my boytoy." EMMA, MEAN. HE'S TWELVE. "Pick up your phone - the thing we're talking with - touch the image that says 'photos' under it, and look for the blonde girl with amazing legs."

Modesty, thy name is Frost.

"The most recent one is probably me wearing a white dress with...diamond links." Because she was not saying 'chains' to a twelve-year-old.

THIRTEEN. HE WAS THIRTEEN.

It was a long moment before he spoke again. "There's me but I'm much older," he said, faintly. "I never get tall, do I? And people I don't know. And -- oh. You seem to, ah, know me rather well."

In the not-entirely-dressed sense.

"Nevermind! Exit out of the photos app!" Oh god, she'd traumatized him forever. "...I don't know if I'm drunk enough for this."

Which was why she was pouring herself more, yes.

"Er," Jack said, awkwardly, as he attempted to comply with the request. "I'm ... sorry. They were very nice photos! You weren't wrong about being pretty!"

"Thank you, darling, but I'm rather sure I just contributed to the deliquescent of a minor in a major way," Emma replied dryly. "...how old did you say you are?"

Fortunately for Emma's brain and liver, Karla was the proper age when she called. "Whatever is up with Portalocity these days makes it very hard to surprise you with a visit," she announced crossly. "Go make someone think they're a toad."

"Can't," Emma answered forlornly. "Too tipsy."

"Jack is fourteen, Karla. So I drank more."

[glacial_queen]

"Ouch." Karla meant that sympathetically, she really did. But she couldn't help snickering a little bit anyway. "It's going around the island. Did you break him?"

"He found pictures on his phone." Normally, Emma would not be forlorn about this. "I said I was the gorgeous blonde with the legs and he found our dirty pictures. He's fourteen. His voice hasn't even cracked yet."

[glacial_queen]

"...You keep dirty pictures on your phone?"

Karla, not the point!

"He might only be fourteen, but that doesn't mean he won't appreciate the find!"

Karla, not helping!

"Well I'm not going to take pictures, print them, and then send them in the mail," Emma pointed out. "...do I need to explain classy sexting with Instagram and -- No, wait, not helping, Karla!"

"But I'm sure that explaining classy sexting and Instagram will help keep your mind off of things!" See? What a good friend Karla was!

"Like the odds that teensy Jack is going through all of those pictures right now!"

Or not.

"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate you," Emma informed her. "Hate."

"Do not," Karla said cheerfully. "You feel bad for me. Because while you were trying not to flirt with your fourteen year old boyfriend, I was dealing with an even surlier and sulkier Jono than we had ever met."

So, yeah. If you were planning on talking to Jon this week, Emma, Karla suggested texting.

EMMA, NO.

"Only if you want to get angry, keysmashy texts about how much he doesn't care about you, or the future, or anything at all," Karla said with an eyeroll that was almost audible. "So, if you truly hate your liver, then by all means."
