In the end, it proved far too easy to lose track of time. Six in the evening found Emma up against the wall, her wrists pinned above her head by one of Jack's hands (and his new six inches totally dirty), and otherwise preoccupied when there was a flash of light and the world tilted sideways for a moment.

The next thing Emma knew, she was on the floor of her apartment in Bed-Stuy, the rumpled shirt she'd been wearing when she'd gone to sleep on Friday night in a heap next to her.

"OH COME ON!"

"Darling, you do realize we probably weren't going to go to sleep until Monday morning, right?" Emma teased dryly. "And you don't do fifteen minutes unless we're in a coat closet."

WHAT? IT WAS TRUE.

"...or over the phone."

Yes, that was an offer. Look, getting teleported mid-sex left a girl very frustrated.

"You flatter a man's ego," Jack said, with a strangled kind of laugh. "God, that's something we didn't get around to this weekend. Coat closet."

In part because they'd barely left the room. (He understood her offer; he was just mulling it over.)

"No coat closet," Emma agreed, sighing with sadness. "I'll add to to the mental Rolodex of places to do next time we're in the same spot."

Because of course they would.

"The Ritz something-or-other," Jack nodded. He'd finally began to make moves to get dressed again, almost disappointed that his clothes still fit. "I'd take you back anytime, if I could find it. Next time we might even spend more time outside the room."

"No we won't," Emma teased, making herself a little nest in her blankets and burrowing in to stay warm. She could put on clothes, but why bother? "At the most, we might make it as far as the lobby. We need what quality time we can get."

"Mmmmm," Jack agreed, thinking about something. He went quiet for a moment. "About the quality time ... it never seems like there's enough of it lately."

"I just finished my first master's program, and you're stuffing your head full of intricate legal tomes," she replied, bemused. "Because we need to be smarter than everyone else, or we get bored."

"We'll have to schedule a vacation over your Spring Break. I won't even bring my phone."

"I thought we were in it for the money," Jack laughed. "And a vacation would be nice."

Very nice, in fact.

"But what I was getting at is, well ... at some point we might want to think about living in the same city again."

There. He'd said it, and the earth hadn't stopped in its rotations.

"It would certainly beat waking up alone and sore," she replied, amused. "Are you quite sure we wouldn't kill each other if we were together full-time, darling? We might be older, but sometimes I wonder about wiser."

"Although my portal commute wouldn't be too terrible, since I can do most of my work from home so long as I can connect to the proper internet."

It wasn't a 'no.' In fact, it was perilously close to a 'yes.'

"We get two bedrooms," Jack said firmly. "If we fight too much, we go into them and close the door."

Wisdom might still be a ways away, but he wasn't nearly starry-eyed enough to think they'd never fight.

"And that almost sounds like you'd want to come back to the island," he said cautiously. "I wouldn't have asked for that, but if you want to --"

"Not necessarily the island, but there is a multiverse of options out there. Maybe we go to Alenko's space stations... although that might make our jobs more difficult."

"Besides, I can't expect you to live in my New York full-time and practice supernatural law from another world," Emma said briskly. "But we don't have to decided today, or even tomorrow. You're just starting school and I'm just starting out."

"I like the multiverses where we stay on Earth best," Jack laughed. "And getting set up will be easier if we stay in England or the U.S. Beyond that ... you're right, we have time. I've a little over two more years of school, and I don't relish the thought of transferring."
