Outside the Dorms, Late Saturday Morning

Hank had a saying; what Emma wants, Emma gets. And what Emma wanted right now was her fencing sword, because being surprised in the shower by that... thing had not been pleasant.

From what she was picking up from the other residents, these things were everywhere. So off to the weapons locker it was, to get something sharp so that she didn't have to try and bludgeon the next one to death with her shampoo bottle.

And somewhere along the line she had acquired a Jack, who was being so very Victorian about this, and not letting her out of the dorms alone.

"I don't need a babysitter, you know. I know where the weapons lockers are."

"I know I need the doctor," he said, in a moment of lucidity. "I have memory loss and I feel like I'm going to fall over any second. It's probably a"-- English, Jack -- "concussion."

"But" --and the lucid moment might have been fading -- "I do love you. Really."

"You rattled your bra~in!" she sang, helping him along. "Don't worry, I promise not to tease you about this too badly when you're right in the head again."

More like never mention it at all.

"Not the way I love Sebastien" -- oh, he was definitely not right in the head -- "but I do. But I shan't say it again. It's a secret."

He would pay her not to mention it again.

A quick, angry, shadow flickered across her face, but it was gone in an instant.

"You owe coffee during every one of Mitchell's classes for the next month," she muttered. "And a nice dinner out. Possibly something shiny."

Tacky, Jack, and the only reason you're not getting smacked this instant and left in the middle of the road is because Emma knows you're not right in the head.

"I owe you coffee for" -- Jack almost walked into a tree but righted himself at the last minute -- "saying I love you?"

His eyes were wide, innocent and almost blank, as if he could not conceive of what he had said wrong. Just then, he couldn't; he was only being honest.

No, for the unfavorable comparison to the vampire, but Emma wasn't going to say that to a badly-injured boy who wouldn't understand.

"Tree, Jack." Emma took his hand firmly to guide him along in a slightly-straighter line. "You owe me coffee for getting you down here in one piece. I'm a shopper, not a fighter."

...way to dodge the issue, Emma.

"Oh." That didn't make sense. Not much made sense.

Another tree. He squeezed her hand as he dodged it.

"Thank you," he said, sheepish. "I mean that. Thank you."

Emma paused long enough to give him a bright smile. "Of course," she replied. "I couldn't very well leave my favorite Jack to fend for himself, now could I? What kind of friend would I be?"

"Not much of a friend to this Jack, at least."
