Room 528, Weds Morning

Emma was awoken this morning by other people's thoughts.

This, in and of itself, wasn't unusual. Emma was usually woken at least two or three times a night by leakage from the rest of the dorm; bad dreams, loud 'activities', unholy perky people, that sort of thing.

But this was loud. It wasn't just one or two people bouncing around like squirrels on pop-rocks in the morning. No, this was much, much bigger.

And it felt very very familiar in tone. Disturbingly familiar.

Oh hell.

Emma was just going to stay under the blankets all day, if she could get away with it. Possibly kill a particular minion with the power of her brain if she got close enough. What good was it having an underling that 'knew stuff' if she wasn't going to be useful?

"Sorry!" Oh God, that was rude. Just because I have one, do I have to turn *into* one? "Sorry. Um." Right. Pants Fairy. "Everybody, I guess? I've just been knocking on rooms that I know have girls in them that I didn't already see downstairs."

"You already turned into one," Emma answered, not realizing Francine hadn't said that part aloud. She was too busy trying to find pants that weren't fugly. "Downstairs? Has my illustrious minion set up her rummage sale of good again?"

"Um. What?" Did I say that out loud? Sadly for the farcicial aspect of this, Francine really did have to ask herself that sometimes. "Layla's down there, if that's what you mean."

"Yes, that's what I mean. Layla's my head minion." HA! Emma grabbed a pair of decently-cut khakis and held them up against her waist critically. "And you might have said it out loud, or you might not have, or you might not have said that out loud either. Did you or didn't you? That might be the great question of the day."

"Beyond the obvious question of 'How the hell did I wake up with a dick,' of course."

"I've been here a while; I know that one. It just never actually happened to me before."

And no, the great question of the day was, Why am I less disturbed by the idea that I'd be a gay *guy* than -- well.

That and is Emma really as hot as I remember her being or is that just the blonde thing like with Karla?

Okay, this time that did catch Emma's attention long enough to make her stop riffling through the box, and she gave Francine a slow smirk. "Which of those questions do you want me to answer first, darling?"

"I didn't ask any questions."

Slow, not stupid. Slow, not stupid. Eventually she'd get there.

Hey, it could be any number of things! It was Fandom! Maybe the squirrels were on her payroll.

"Auntie Emma knows everything, darling," Emma replied as she started picking through these shirts. Was there a button-down anywhere? "How can I help?"

Meddle, Emma. The word you want is 'meddle', not help.

"...Take a shirt?" So, so good at playing dumb, from all the years of actually being it.

Meanwhile the innner monologue hadn't varied much from Ajahgsjaghsjahgsajsghajsghajlsghajlsghajsghalsjhgasjlh.

"I'm looking. I have to make sure it will fit," she drawled, selecting a tshirt and pulling it over her head. Nope, too small, and if she peeled it off a tad slowly, well, she was making sure not to rip it. "And you still haven't picked a question."

All right, not that good at playing dumb. "They were kind of rhetorical..."

"No they weren't," Emma half-sang, trying another shirt.

A flash of divine inspiration struck as she remembered a conversation from awhile ago. "Don't tell me your Merlin still hasn't figured out his book?"

"What?" The protest of confusion lacked something when her mind was filled with an image of The Book so clear you could read the ISBN under the barcode.

"Don't 'what' me," Emma replied, rolling her eyes. "Either he has or he hasn't, that's all there is to it."

"Or maybe Freud or Jung would be a more entertaining read for you two, if you're trying to figure out why it's not disturbing to know you'd be a gay man."

"Oh, and yes, I'm usually stunningly attractive, thank you, although it might just be a blonde thing." She smiled at Francine brightly before plucking a plain white button-down shirt from the box and shrugging it on. Not fastened, of course, but on. "Did I miss anything?"

That slightly-pouty face Francine made when she couldn't decide whether to be confused, mortified or annoyed was worth framing when it appeared on a boy.

"We are just fine in the book department, thank you." It was the video department that was slightly unsettling these days and I am not picturing that I am thinking of fuzzy bunnies in an Easter basket. "And I'm not disturbed to know I'd be a gay man; I like boys." I'm disturbed that I probably wouldn't be. Entirely. BUNNIES BUNNIES BUNNIES BUNNIES WITH PASTEL COLORED EGGS. "And you missed buttoning your shirt."

She yanked the box back, since Emma appeared to be finished with it.

"You know, bunnies have a lot of sex," Emma replied sweetly. "And they eat their young."

"And I said 'not disturbing'. I'm sure many people are finding their heteronormative view on life challenged today, so I'm glad you're not too shaken up about it."

The expression didn't change one whit, except maybe to shift more towards the confused end of the spectrum.

"...Right." With a side of eww for the bunnies and what for whatevertheheck heteronormative meant. "So. Um. Enjoy the pants."
